Fixed and Removable Prostheses on Implants
Traditional prostheses, popularly known as palate teeth or hooked dental prostheses, are removable prostheses that are supported by the person’s existing teeth or if there are no teeth in the mouth, they are supported by soft tissues. These prostheses can move in the mouth during chewing and speaking, can come out of the mouth and put the person in an unwanted situation in a social environment. However, nowadays, with the widespread use of implant treatment, these problems are being overcome.
Implant treatment in edentulous patients makes it possible to use dentures with the comfort of fixed teeth.
What are Dental Implant Prostheses?
Implant prostheses are fixed prostheses supported by dental implants that will be placed before instead of being supported by natural teeth.
One of the biggest advantages of dental implants, unlike removable dentures, is that they integrate perfectly into your body. This is because the materials from which they are made are completely biocompatible. Dental implants can be used for a lifetime as long as you follow good hygiene habits and undergo regular periodic checkups to check their condition over time.
Types of Prosthesis in Dental Implants
Implant Supported Fixed Prosthesis
It is a type of fixed prosthesis held in the mouth with dental implants placed in the bone instead of being supported by natural teeth. They can be one piece, two or more. These prostheses can be attached or screwed to the dental implant surgically integrated into the jawbone. Implants are made of highly biocompatible materials such as titanium or ceramic to facilitate integration with soft tissues as much as possible.
It is generally used in patients with missing teeth, advanced gingival disease in which all their teeth need to be extracted, or people who have a serious skeletal mismatch but do not want a conventional prosthesis.
The number of implants in this type of dental prosthesis usually varies between 4 and 6, depending on the condition of the bone to be placed, taking into account the age and gender of the patient.
In these cases, it is important to follow food recommendations and avoid chewing gum and foods that are very difficult to chew. It is also important to clean the teeth at least 3 times a day after meals. Thus, it is ensured that food residues do not accumulate in the area where they are located.
Implant Supported Removable Dentures
They are dentures on implants, also known as overdentures. Despite being used less and less, this solution is especially recommended when the patient does not have sufficient bone quantity or is not of sufficient quality. It is a type of prosthesis designed with snaps on 2 or 4 implants. The patient does not complain that he never moves in the mouth while using this type of prosthesis. Use it comfortably. It can be easily removed and cleaned whenever it wants.
